Hebden Bridge’s Climate Chaos Kitchen came into being early in 2008 and a series of monthly evenings with a vegetarian meal and educational event led up to the presentation of the idea of Transition Initiatives. This is an inspiring practical response to climate change and peak oil, which could be taken on by our community.
After a summer break, the Climate Chaos Kitchen has returned with an autumn season of events on topics related to the Transition Concept. The first one was “Permaculture and Transition Towns”, and the next one on Sunday 2nd November is called "Hebden Bridge - Off The Grid?"

There has also been three meetings where between 20 and 35 people have come together to discuss whether a Transition Town is a good model for Hebden Bridge to use in becoming a more sustainable community, more able to be resilient to future changes. We have decided to adopt the name Transition Town to encompass our vision for a future sustainable Hebden Bridge. We have also decided to work towards an official launch of this in early June 2009.
